About The First Annual Shakespeare in the Park

Insomniac Theatre Company’s Chad Taylor had been wanting to put on a free community performing arts festival for years. In 2016, with a shoestring budget and very little fanfare, the First Annual Shakespeare in the Park was born. With the help of sponsorships and grants from local organizations, plus the support of The Reilly Art Center the event was a success with approximately 2,000 people braving periodically stormy weather to enjoy live theatre, vendors, music and more.

What’s more, due to the hurricane two weeks before, The Reilly’s Oktoberfest celebration had to be canceled. In the spirit of community, we were able to bring on elements of their event including food and several bands to create Shakestoberfest. A truly unique cultural event we were proud to be a part of.
